What’s the best way to keep my supply up?
Breastfeeding is so heavy on nutrition for you, sweet friend. Here are few of my tried and true tips:
1. Plenty of water: To get the most from these milk boosting recipes, you HAVE to be hydrated. That means minimum of eight 8 oz. glasses of water daily. Another way to calculate this is take your current body weight and divide it in half. That number is how many ounces in water you need daily!
2. Eat balanced: Try to remember to “eat the rainbow”. You want colorful meals with veggies, fruits, proteins, and whole grains. What you’re eating (and drinking) are the top factors in boosting your supply.
3. See a lactation consultant: Most hospitals will have one you can have easy access to. If you delivered with a midwife, reach out to ask her who she recommends or if she’s able to help.
4. Feed on queue: Breastfeeding is a learned skill and newborns (under 12 weeks) need time to figure it out. Stay encouraged and give them time to get that milk! It’s like supply and demand. If they’re nursing, your supply is listening and responding to them.
