Five months. F-I-V-E whole months we’ve been parents to sweet little Laddy boy! We’ve learned A LOT and can’t believe how he gets cuter every day. Definitely not biased.
Two weeks ago little Laddy went through what I think was his 18th growth spurt. The little guy eats like a grown man and we were having to bust into our freezer stash of milk to keep up with him all the while I’m pumping every 3 hours. It was an insane time in the Goebel household. It was during that time that me and my milk-makers made the executive decision that we were going to dive into people food.
I’ve been doing a lot of research (first baby privileges lol) and have a lot of thoughts on what a baby should be eating for first foods. If you’re interested, feel free to message me on what I’ve found, but in general, I wanted to keep in line with healthy fats because that is essentially what breast milk is. Fat.
So we went with avocado puree! I blended the avocado up with breastmilk and made baby guac. [I’d like to state for the record that I ate avocados 10 years ago before they were trendy. I’m really annoyed how expensive they are these days due to all of you hipsters out there. Please find a new food item to love and take pictures of.]
We were given a Baby Bullet from a friend and it works faaaantastic. A blender is a-ok too, but mine is a little old and the bullet does a really good job of pureeing . And it comes with little baby food jars that have smiley’s on them hehe.
There are only a few canisters so I’ve been using ice cube trays for the other food. I fill up a tray, freeze it, then put the cubes in a bag in the freezer until we’re ready to use one!
Our first attempt didn’t go so great, as you can imagine haha. But then my mom suggested warming it up a little bit (DUR) and he loved it! So now we have yellow AND green spit-up/snot situations. Life is good. 😉
He still drinks right at 6-8 bottles a day (YEP.), but this is a nice little mid-morning break for both of us. The first year little babies get a majority of their nutrition from breast milk anyways, and the food is just for supplementing. After Laddy turns the big uno this summer (and after I stop crying), we’ll get him onto other things.
All-in-all we’re trucking along over here! This is our favorite age so far. Lad likes to squeal and screech and scream and he cracks himself (and us) up! No teefys yet, but he juuust might gnaw one of his hands off very soon. We go through several bibs a day and still like to projectile spit-up on occasion. He moves his knees a little bit when he is on his tumtum, so crawling may be in our future…yikes! He can roll over from his belly to his back (although I think it’s because he is a bit round in the front and doesn’t have a choice) and rolled from his back to his front for the first time the other day! He is still a champ sleeper (for the most part) during the night and we were able to retire the oh-so-magical sleep sack. He now sleeps spread-eagle, so he is really embracing his newfound freedom.
Now. It’s time to go partake in Christmas merriment!
